Partnering to Advance Traffic Safety

Micromobility Safety Initiative

Selected by U.S. Department of Transportation, in 2020 Populus received funding to support leveraging big data to improve micromobility safety.

This year, we invite cities and operators to partner with us as part of Phase II of this initiative. Populus will partner with a select number of U.S. cities to deliver advanced digital solutions that integrate micromobility trip data, incident data, and road network plans to quickly identify and prioritize system safety improvements.

What is the Micromobility Safety Initiative?

The Micromobility Safety Initiative is an opportunity for U.S. cities to partner with Populus to access free advanced digital solutions to improve transportation safety, with an emphasis on micromobility and other vulnerable road users.

Populus has been funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation to integrate disparate data sources, including micromobility trip and vehicle data, incident data, and existing (or planned) road network data to surface insights that can accelerate safer streets for all users.

In 2022, we are partnering with U.S. cities, large and small, who are dedicated to improving micromobility and transportation safety. Key expectations of city partners:

  • Participate in quarterly (virtual) meetings with partner cities to share progress updates, best practices, and hear from invited experts on traffic safety.

  • Leverage Populus’ digital solutions to review transportation network plans, integrate multiple data sets, and identify opportunities for improvements.
