Populus Partners with the City of Pittsburgh on First-of-its-Kind Mobility Program.

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. August 17, 2021—Populus, the industry-leading data platform for cities to manage shared mobility services, today announced its participation in Move PGH, the City of Pittsburgh’s newly launched mobility-as-a-service (MaaS) program for easy and equitable mobility.

The first-of-its-kind program integrates transit and shared mobility in both physical and digital “mobility hubs” to make multimodal travel in the city easy and convenient. This new system of integrated services enables a second program, the “Universal Basic Mobility” pilot, which will provide up to 100 local low-income     residents with monthly transit subscriptions and shared mobility services to address mobility insecurity. Both programs support the City’s equity principles that all Pittsburghers can easily access fresh food, afford basic transportation, and safe travel without reliance on a vehicle.

“Populus is a critical partner of the Pittsburgh Mobility Collective, and was integral to the program’s development and successful launch” said Tosh Chambers, Senior Program Director at Move PGH. “The Populus platform has proven to be a valuable tool to aid Pittsburgh in ensuring that new forms of mobility are meeting our ambitious benchmarks related to equity and accessibility, guaranteeing that new options serve the communities that need them most."

Populus will serve as the data management solution for the program, ingesting Mobility Data Specification (MDS) data from shared mobility service providers Spin (e-scooters), Scoobi (mopeds), and Zipcar (carshare). Through our platform, the city will be able to analyze service reliability and accessibility for low-income workers and their households, and leverage findings for future planning and policy-making. Populus is the only solution with the proven ability to ingest multimodal and complex data from shared bikes, scooters, cars, mopeds, and delivery fleets.

“Populus is proud to support the City of Pittsburgh’s efforts to create a more equitable and sustainable transportation future through the Move PGH program,” said Regina Clewlow, CEO of Populus. “We are thrilled by the opportunity to be the first data platform in the world to support MaaS program monitorization and analysis, and thank the city for entrusting us to play this critical role.”

Move PGH is funded by the Richard King Mellon Foundation and Spin in partnership with InnovatePGH.
