Munich Partners with Populus and Rupprecht Consult to Enhance Shared Mobility in the City

The City of Munich will leverage Populus Mobility Manager, which empowers cities to efficiently manage bikes, e-scooters, and other shared mobility services through access to better data.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - 21 August, 2024Populus, a global leader in transportation and mobility services, proudly announces its partnership with the City of Munich (LHM) and Rupprecht Consult. This collaboration aims to support Munich's ambitious Mobility Strategy 2035 by enhancing the city's management of its shared mobility program.

The City of Munich has long pursued the vision of a car-lite city through numerous city council resolutions and plans. The Mobility Strategy 2035 of the Mobility Department identifies shared mobility as a critical component for achieving these urban goals. To realize this vision, Munich recognizes the need for a robust system to monitor progress and address potential challenges in shared mobility.

The new partnership will focus on developing a scientifically grounded indicator system to monitor and assess the development of shared mobility in Munich – powered by the Populus Mobility Manager Platform and a selection of top-tier tooling. This system will enable the city to make fact-based decisions, optimizing the efficiency of public funds and ensuring continuous improvement in the shared mobility sector.

Munich will access comprehensive data and mapping tools to analyze how residents and visitors leverage shared mobility devices and travel around the city.

Under the agreement, Populus will provide its Mobility Manager Platform to enhance data collection and analysis. Rupprecht Consult will assist in refining the existing draft of the indicator system, ensuring that it meets scientific criteria and is operationalized effectively. The collaboration will help Munich achieve several key objectives:

  • Overall System: Manage and promote area-efficient and non-discriminatory shared mobility services.

  • Integration: Ensure all shared mobility services are digitally integrated for quick and convenient access.

  • Priority: Prioritize shared mobility services over private cars on the roads.

  • Efficiency & Transparency: Enhance the profitability and transparency of shared mobility.

  • Climate Protection & Sustainability: Contribute to the city's climate neutrality goals, aiming for climate-neutral and low-emission shared mobility by 2035.

  • Service Quality: Ensure the availability of reliable shared mobility services across the city.

"At Populus, we are committed to helping cities navigate the complexities of modern transportation,” added Regina Clewlow CEO and Co-Founder of Populus. “Our collaboration with Munich aligns perfectly with our mission to support sustainable urban mobility. We are thrilled to contribute our expertise and technology to help Munich achieve its long-term goals."
