Populus Selected for AWS Sustainable Cities Accelerator

With the urban population expected to grow 1.5 times to 6 billion people by 2045, developing sustainable cities is a crucial component of the fight against climate change.

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. May 24, 2022 - Populus is thrilled to announce that it was selected as one of the innovative startups chosen to be part of Amazon Web Services (AWS) first Smart Cities Accelerator. Twelve innovative companies were selected from hundreds of applications, representing 19 countries, by a panel of experts from AWS, Freshwater Advisors, and Public Spend Forum.

Cities occupy just 3% of the land on Earth but account for 75% of carbon emissions. With the urban population expected to grow 1.5 times to 6 billion people by 2045, developing sustainable cities is a crucial component of the fight against climate change.

AWS launched the Sustainable Cities Accelerator program in March to help address the crucial need for innovation and collaborative solutions to address global climate and clean tech challenges. The program is delivered along with Freshwater Advisors, a national innovation consultancy and venture catalyst, and Public Spend Forum, a market intelligence platform connecting government buyers with innovation.

As the leading technology platform for cities to manage mobility services and curbs, Populus is thrilled to be part of this opportunity to connect with government and industry partners to accelerate decarbonization of transportation in cities. In April, Populus also announced that it partnered with cities and major operators in Europe to deliver a new solution to measure the carbon reductions of transportation.

Responding to the global climate crisis will require innovation and collaboration across industries, governments, startups, and global corporations. From energy transformation, to mobility and transportation, to the built world, to the circular economy—clean tech investment and innovation is surging. Over the next six weeks, Populus will be virtually connected with AWS customers, digging deeper into their current challenges to learn how new innovations can be part of the solution.

The culmination of this program will be the AWS Sustainable Cities Demo Day, where the startups will showcase their technology in person at the Evergreen Climate Innovations Co-Invest Day. Register to join the Evergreen Climate Innovations Co-Invest Day in person.
